Spaces

April 2016 – November 2016

A five part, short-form documentary series investigating the relationship artists share with specific spaces: how they find solace on walking routes, which cafes are the most fervent for creativity, how their art relates to the world around them, and vice versa. Throughout these films, the significance of rituals, the tensions of temporality, and the nature of creation and self-actualization are explored.

SPACES PART 1:

Sara London explains her theories on art and how she sees her characters along one of her favorite walking routes.

SPACES PART 2:

Artist Abigail Jennings discusses her creative processes and impulses, how old memories help her move forward, and what makes her believe in art. You can learn more about Jennings' work at her website:

SPACES PART 3:

Jesse and I wander around Greenwich Village and discuss the nature of writing, art, and the stagnation that lingers in between creative periods.

SPACES PART 4:

Playwright Katherine Lichtenfels discusses the delicacy of creating space, the trust within a theatre, and the wonder of seeing your words take on a life of their own.

Spaces Part 5:

Writer and photographer Elle Carroll and I discuss the value of art, the museum, and the magic of San Francisco.
